There's Always This Year: On Basketball and Ascension
Hanif Abdurraqib
This is an experimental memoir largely centered around growing up in Ohio during the time of LeBron James’ meteoric rise to stardom. It’s loosely chronological and the stories are at times seemingly random, but they all fit into loose themes surrounding basketball, Black athletes, and the role sports plays in communities. The book is divided into the fictional quarters of a basketball game and includes timeouts in each quarter to break up the pacing.
