My Year of Rest and Relaxation
Ottessa Moshfegh
I got this book on a whim because I felt like I also needed a year of rest and relaxation. This story follows a 26 year old woman living in New York City and her quest to use drugs to sleep for an entire year.
Reading this book was difficult because I found the main character insufferable, but I still think about this book. It made me think about how mental health impacts friendships and the consequences of being in different stages of healing at inconvenient times. It also made me think about what it takes to “feel good” about living and whether “feeling good” is actually a sign of progress.
