I’m Glad My Mom Died
Jeanette McCurdy
Memoir from Jeanette McCurdy of iCarly fame about growing up with her narcissistic and abusive mother, the damage her mother caused, and how she is starting to recover after her mother’s death. McCurdy discusses growing up as a child actor living out her mother’s dream — it’s a raw and intense read that deals with themes of hording, eating disorders, OCD, narcissism, and fame. The book is split into two parts: before her mom died and after. My only critique is that the two sections felt imbalanced and that more time could have been dedicated to the recovery part of her story.
