Book cover for Instructions for Traveling West by Joy Sullivan

I didn’t like this book very much, it reads like instagram poetry and I didn’t find it very interesting. This which was disappointing but not surprising since I found out about this book through screenshots on Tumblr. I borrowed it from the library and finished it rather quickly. Admittedly, I don’t think I was in the proper headspace to appreciate this book, but I also don’t think it was very good regardless.

Highlighted quotes:
These Days People Are Really Selling Me on California / where no one yet has broken my heart. When I left Ohio, / I left backroads and the endless chop of green / meadow, the cicadas roaring in the splintered heat.
