Book cover for Extremely Online by Taylor Lorenz

I think I expected more from this book but it was ultimately forgettable as someone who grew up with the rise of the internet and social media. The stories were either too far removed from me to be interesting or too close to me to be informative. It does make you think about how volatile and fragile all social media platforms are.

I wanted to like this book more than I did — ultimately I found it pretty forgettable. It made me think about how volatile and fragile all social media platforms are, and how much time I’ve invested in these platforms which profit off making us addicted and angry. The most interesting parts were about how people make money off of posting things on the internet and how things change as platforms rise and fall.
