Kairos

This book was an ordeal to get through. I originally purchased this in July 2024 during a trip to Bowen Island, BC, and I would start and stop it periodically until I gave it one good go and I eventually was able to see the bigger picture and push through.

This is on the surface a story about a middle-aged man and his affair with a much young woman, but on a much deeper level, this is a story about the fall of the Berlin Wall. It’s a story about growing up and realizing what is serving you and what is not. The majority of the story takes place in East Germany with glimpses into West Germany as Katarina, the protagonist, travels between the two. The first half of the book is centered on the affair, and the final half is centered on the collapse of the affair and the collapse of East Germany and the resulting fallout and impact of both.
