What My Bones Know
Stephanie Foo
This memoir focuses on the author’s journey navigating, and eventually recovering from, complex trauma. It’s not a guide to healing trauma, but the author does discuss the different approaches she tried in detail, which gives a lot of context and detail about different therapy modalities.
I borrowed this book from my mom and it came to me at a very interesting point in my life as I was contemplating quitting therapy with my then-therapist. I had suspected for a long time that this specific form of therapy with this specific therapist wasn’t working for me, but I think this book opened my eyes to some alternative therapies, even as someone who has been through the therapeutic process many times before.
