The Three Lives of Cate Kay

This was my second Book of the Month and I did not enjoy this one very much at all. It’s told in a mock-interview/memoir format with the protagonist leaving “author’s notes” throughout, which just annoyed me more than anything. This story is about a lesbian who leaves her hometown after her friend is in a tragic accident and finds herself sky-rocketing to fame as an author who publishes under a pseudonym. It could have some very interesting things to say about the intersection of queerness and privacy, but it just…doesn’t. All the characters in this novel have nearly identical voices, which is confusing given the constantly shifting perspectives.
